Accountability court adjourns hearing in Sharif's case till Dec 4

Islamabad [Pakistan], Nov 28 (ANI): The accountability court in Islamabad, hearing Nawaz Sharif's corruption case, was adjourned on Tuesday after the former Pakistan prime minister requested the investigator to suspend proceedings until the IHC takes a decision on clubbing the references against him.

Earlier today, Sharif was directly escorted by the heavy protocol to the court from the Islamabad Airport.

The IHC had, on November 23, reserved its judgement on a petition by Sharif to club the references against him.

According to the Dawn, the request filed by the former prime minister today sought suspension of the accountability court's proceedings till the decision is announced.

National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) prosecutor, Sardar Muzzafar, objected to Sharif's appeal.

The NAB prosecutor urged the court that the witnesses had appeared on behalf of the bureau for the hearing and should be allowed to record their statement, since only half of his testimony was recorded in the last hearing.

However, the accountability court rejecting the request adjourned the case till December 4.

Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, and her husband, Captain (retired) Mohammad Safdar, were also present in the court.

Sharif, his sons Hasan and Hussain, daughter Maryam, son-in-law Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar are facing multiple corruption references in the accountability court.

The Pakistan Supreme Court had, on July 28, disqualified Sharif from holding the office of the prime minister and asked the National Accountability Bureau to file references against the Sharif family in connection with corruption cases against them.

Last week, Sharif said that no decision of the court could separate him from the people of Pakistan. (ANI)
