Mumbai has claimed the Irani Cup 2024 title under Ajinkya Rahane's captaincy, marking their first triumph in 27 years. The team secured this achievement by defeating Rest of India in Lucknow, despite the match ending in a draw. Mumbai's victory was determined by their first-innings lead, thanks to Sarfaraz Khan's remarkable double century, as he scored an unbeaten 222 runs. In their first innings, Mumbai amassed 537 runs before being bowled out, while Rest of India responded with 400 runs. Previously known as Bombay, Mumbai has now won the Irani Cup 15 times overall, having shared the trophy with Rest of India in the 1965-66 season. Their last win came in the 1997-98 season, making this victory a significant milestone.
