UP to Establish SCR on the Lines of Delhi NCR, Check Which Districts Near Lucknow Will Be Included
In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to create a State Capital Region (SCR) around Lucknow, similar to the Delhi NCR model. The Yogi Adityanath-led government has cleared the way for this development by preparing the draft of the "State Capital Region and Other Area Authority Bill-2023," and has sought public suggestions on the proposal. The SCR will encompass six districts. A Regional Development Authority will be established under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Chief Secretary will serve as the vice-chairman, and the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning Department will be the convening member. This authority will be responsible for drafting the regional plan for the SCR. The Regional Development Authority will coordinate with its subordinates to create functional plans, master plans, development schemes, and project plans. It will also have the power to issue directives to relevant local housing authorities. The Housing Department has requested public objections and suggestions on the draft bill. The initiative aims to streamline and enhance the development of the areas surrounding Lucknow, ensuring a more integrated and well-planned urban expansion.
