SC refuses to change conditions for reservation in promotion to SCs, STs in govt jobs
The Supreme Court has declined to relax the criteria for reservations in government positions for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), stating that it cannot set a new standard. States are required to collect statistics on the inadequacy of representation of SCs/STs, according to a three-judge panel led by Justice Nageswara Rao. The Supreme Court stated that state governments must collect quantifiable evidence before giving reservation in promotion to SC/ST employees and that it cannot set any new standards following the Constitution Bench's decision.
