Nipah Virus Claims Life In Kerala, WHO Warns Of Severe Symptoms And Zoonotic Spread | ABP Live

After the coronavirus pandemic, several other viruses emerged that, while not as dangerous, were still significant threats. One such virus is the Nipah virus, which recently claimed a life in Kerala. The question arises: What is the Nipah virus, how does it spread, how dangerous is it, and what are its symptoms? According to WHO, Nipah is a zoonotic virus, meaning it can be transmitted from animals to humans. In Kerala, outbreaks occurred in Kozhikode, Ernakulam, and Malappuram in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Symptoms include fever, headaches, breathing difficulties, and sore throat, with severe cases leading to encephalitis and coma within 24 to 48 hours. The incubation period can range from 4 to 45 days. Since no vaccine or cure exists, prevention is the only way to avoid infection by following hygiene and avoiding contact with bats and pigs.
