Nanak's teachings will unite Indians, says Tamil Nadu native Jeevan Singh, as he contests elections from Hoshiarpur
Jeevan Singh Tamil is contesting the Lok Sabha election from the Hoshiarpur constituency in Punjab as a candidate from a party called the Bhaujan Dravida Party. A native of Tamil Nadu, Jeevan Singh only speaks Tamil and English, but he says that this does not hinder his campaign activities. "The Manuvadi ideology divided our people into 7,000 castes, it's unimaginable. Every caste is fighting against every other caste, people from every caste have a (sense of) pride in their mind, "oh my caste is a very big caste"...so then who will unite the people? Nanakshahi, (Guru) Nanak's ideology, Guru Granth Sahib (will) unite the people...so I am a victim of the caste system, it is my responsibility to unite the people throughout the country," says Bhaujan Dravida Party Candidate from Hoshiarpur. Up against formidable candidates from the AAP, the BJP, and the Congress, Singh, a Supreme Court advocate who adopted Sikhism last year, says that he is fighting the election against the caste system and is confident that he will win. Hoshiarpur along with all the other 12 Lok Sabha Constituencies in Punjab goes to the polls on June 1st.
