Mumbai rain leads to waterlogging, heavy traffic jams, train cancellations & flight disruptions

Heavy rainfall pounded Mumbai and its suburbs on July 8, leading to extensive waterlogging, traffic jams and cancellation of trains. Commuters have been facing hurdles in making their way through waterlogged roads in their cars and two-wheelers. The city received around 270 mm of rainfall at various locations between 2 am to 6 am. The heavy downpour led to the cancellation of several trains, as reported by Central Railways. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg for Monday. RMC has also issued a red alert for Pune and Satara. In view of the inclement weather, 50 flights were cancelled and several flights were diverted in Mumbai according to Mumbai International Airport. BMC has also issued a helpline number 1916 for the residents of Mumbai to contact the Main Control Room of the BMC, for help and official information in case of requirement. All government and private schools will remain closed as per Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Education (NMMC) and Education Department orders.
