Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 in Delhi on Thursday due to age-related health issues. He had been admitted to AIIMS Delhi and passed away at 9:51 PM. His body was brought to his residence late that night, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other leaders paid their respects on Friday, offering condolences to his wife, Gursharan Kaur. His last rites will be held on Saturday after the arrival of his daughter, a Stanford Law School professor, who reached India on Friday evening. The Union Home Ministry declared a seven-day state mourning, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country and at Indian missions abroad. A state funeral will be held, and official entertainment will be suspended throughout the mourning period. Several states, including Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Assam, and Telangana, announced week-long mourning for the former leader. Tributes poured in from across India and the world, highlighting his humility, vision, simplicity, and role in driving economic reforms. Punjab University, where Singh earned his Master's in Economics in 1954 and later taught, held a condolence meeting in his honor. Singh is remembered as the architect of India’s economic reforms and served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, as well as Finance Minister during the PV Narasimha Rao government, shaping the country's economic policies.
