All eyes are on the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Varanasi is considered a safe seat for the BJP. The saffron party lost from Varanasi only once since 1991. Murli Manohar Joshi won in 2009 before Modi. Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar won from Varanasi in 1977. Congress veteran Kamlapati Tripathi won in 1980. Anil Shastri, son of Lal Bahadur Shastri, won in 1989. BJP's Shankar Jaiswal won thrice between 1996 and 1999. Rajesh Kumar Mishra of Congress won in 2004. Congress never won from Varanasi after 2004
7th phase of polling of LS Elections includes where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting for a third consecutive term. Polling will be conducted in all 13 seats of Punjab, four seats in Himachal Pradesh, 13 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, and three seats in Jharkhand, Chandigarh alongside Varanasi today.
