The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Delhi municipal authorities to keep the status quo in the Jahangirpuri neighbourhood, which was the scene of communal unrest last week, and said it would hear petitions contesting the demolitions on Thursday.

A Delhi court directed the police to ensure that the probe into the Jahangirpuri clashes was carried out fairly in an order remanding two men in police custody for two days on Tuesday. The court sentenced Ansar and Saleem to two days in police prison, finding that "arrest and detention are justifiable on the basis of the reasons stated in the application." Furthermore, the investigating agency is directed to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly."
