Independent candidate 'Babaji Burgerwala' hits streets of Ludhiana on his trusted scooter for door-to-door campaign
While leaders of political parties hold elaborate roadshows, an independent candidate for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat is more into door-to-door campaigning on his trusted two-wheeler with a cop riding pillion for security. Popularly known as 'Babaji Burgerwala', Ravindra Pal Singh is pitted against Congress's Punjab unit chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, three-term sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu of the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party's Ashok Parashar Pappi. "I have got only one resource (to campaign). I have a two-wheeler, Activa. I use that Activa to do my campaigning. I am thankful to the gunmen - the security guards that have been provided to me by the government- they are great people. They go with me on the Activa. They provide their complete support to me. They have never asked me to take them in a car. They say that I can campaign however I want. It is their duty (to go with me) and they must complete their duty," says Ravindra Pal Singh. Burgerwala goes about the city distributing pamphlets where he highlights the health issues the people of Ludhiana are facing, particularly from the Buddha Dariya, a seasonal water stream, which he claims has been polluted by big businesses. Burgerwala also contested the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019. Defeat clearly does not deter him from pitching himself into the electoral battle again and again.
