Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the Centre on Friday to speed up the municipal election process in the national capital. The date of the MCD elections was to be announced on March 9, according to Kejriwal, but the same day, the Centre wrote to the election commission requesting that all three civic bodies (South Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation) be combined into one. The fundamental goal of the Centre, according to Kejriwal, was not to unite the three MCDs.
