Diwali 2024: Kashmir's Iconic Lal Chowk Lights Up with Grand Celebrations | ABP News

For the first time, 10,000 diyas were lit at Srinagar's historic Ghanta Ghar, with Diwali celebrations echoing across Kashmir as people lit lamps throughout the region. According to Kashmir Despatch, as the local atmosphere continues to improve, citizens are experiencing both development and growing community bonds, encouraging the revival of festive celebrations. In Srinagar's bustling Lal Chowk, the evening was illuminated by glowing diyas as Diwali festivities took over the market. Major temples in Srinagar and other areas in the valley were beautifully decorated, and landmarks such as the famous clock tower at Ghanta Ghar were adorned with vibrant lights to celebrate the festival. This historic lighting of diyas at Ghanta Ghar drew both locals and tourists alike to celebrate together at this iconic spot. Reports also show that sweet shops and markets across the valley were busy, as people from Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim communities exchanged Diwali greetings and sweets, joining in the celebrations. Hindu devotees gathered at temples for special prayers on this auspicious day, and various neighborhoods saw bursts of fireworks that colored the night sky. Security personnel at camps like Badamibagh and Awantipora also joined the festivities, organizing Diwali parties within their units. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his greetings to the public, noting, “Deepawali, the festival of lights, brings joy and festivity across all faiths and cultures. The diyas of Deepawali represent the end of ignorance, the victory of good over evil, and hope over despair. They remind us to overcome darkness in every area of life. May this Deepawali bring prosperity, happiness, and guide us all towards progress and well-being."
