Breaking News: Congress Releases Its First List Of Candidates, Fields Vinesh Phogat From Julana
The Congress party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, giving opportunities to several prominent leaders. Among them is Vinesh Phogat, who joined Congress today (Friday, August 6th), and has been nominated as the candidate from the Julana constituency. Currently, Amarjit Dhanda from the JJP holds the MLA position for Julana. The JJP has decided to field him again as their candidate. The BJP has yet to announce its candidate for this seat. In the 2019 election, Dhanda defeated BJP’s Parminder Singh Dhull, securing 61,942 votes, while Parminder Singh received 37,749 votes. Congress’s candidate, Dharmendra Singh Dhull, came in third with 12,440 votes. In the 2014 election, Parminder Singh Dhull won this seat from the INLD, with Congress’s Dharmendra Singh Dhull finishing second. The BSP came in third, and BJP finished fourth. Parminder Singh Dhull also won the 2009 election from the INLD, with Congress in second place. In the 2000 and 2005 elections, Congress candidate Sher Singh won the seat, with Parminder Singh Dhull finishing second as an independent candidate in 2005, and INLD’s Suraj Bhan Kajal in second place in 2000. This time, Congress is hopeful that Vinesh Phogat’s popularity will garner sympathy votes and help them win the seat. Phogat is the first female wrestler from India to reach the Olympic final. However, she was recently disqualified from the Paris Olympics for exceeding the 50 kg weight limit by around 100 grams. Following this, Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from the sport.
