Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced that an interim government is being formed, with Mohammad Yunus designated as the interim prime minister.
On Monday, President Mohammad Shahabuddin confirmed that he accepted Sheikh Hasina's resignation and has ordered the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who had been under house arrest following her conviction in several cases.
