Jugaad To Watch Mumbai Coldplay Concert Leads To 'Houseful Marriot'. Here's What Happened
Coldplay Frenzy: Mumbai fans face skyrocketing hotel prices. A viral Instagram post suggests Abu Dhabi as a cheaper alternative.
The British rock band Coldplay will be performing in India for the first time in nine years in January 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Now, their fans are dealing with a competitive ticket market and soaring accommodation rates as the anticipation for their performances in Mumbai grows. Hotel rates within a 20-kilometre radius of DY Patil Stadium have skyrocketed to an exorbitant Rs 5 lakh for just three nights. Fans are in a panic since several of the surrounding five-star hotels have sold out for January 18, 19, and 21.
Why Courtyard Marriott Is Houseful?
The Courtyard Marriott, which has a superb position overlooking DY Patil Stadium, is currently at full capacity. Coldplay fans started to book a room at the Marriott hotel, which, from its balcony, had a direct view of the music arena.
The luxurious Mumbai hotel is completely booked from January 17th to the 23rd, so other fans will have to wait a little longer to check-in. The booking page clearly states that no rooms will be available during this time. For one person, a night at the Marriott might cost anything from Rs 13,300 to Rs 23,750.
Before Courtyard Marriott sold out, Twitter users posted hilarious memes suggesting fans to book stadium-facing rooms for a "long bird's eye view" of the concert.
Even the COURTYARD MARRIOTT is sold out for both days lmao, tho it is the perfect place to watch the Coldplay concert 😭 pic.twitter.com/65jK6CQVda

Hotel Prices Surge Ahead of Coldplay Concert
Near the Coldplay performance location in Turbhe, the Fern Residency is offering a two-person suite for three nights at approximately Rs 2 lakh. As reported by MakeMyTrip, the Regenza by Tunga in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, has even more inflated prices, costing Rs 4.45 lakh for a comparable three-night stay.
The Taj Ends Land in Bandra, Mumbai, is advertising a two-person room for more than Rs 34,000 on the evening of January 17, which happens to be the same day as the Coldplay event. Listings on Agoda show that a room on December 31 costs more than Rs 32,000.
Abu Dhabi Is Cheaper?
Balram Vishwakarma, whose Instagram account is andheriwestshitposting, has suggested an alternative that has gone viral: a January 11 concert in Abu Dhabi by Coldplay. The user condemned the "black marketers" who are selling concert tickets at inflated prices, drawing attention to the ridiculousness of the pricing in Mumbai.
“Black marketers do realise right that for 180k a person can actually pay the visa fees, take a flight to Abu Dhabi, stay in a pretty kickass hotel for two nights, get gourmet meals, buy Coldplay tickets, come back home and still be left with 10k,” he wrote, alongside a screenshot showing tickets going for as much as Rs 3.84 lakh for the January 18 shows in Mumbai.

Many Coldplay fans are considering a trip to the Middle East as an alternative to the expensive trip to Mumbai, adding fuel to the fire of the concert excitement.
