"Happy Birthday, Chor": Thief Caught Red-Handed in Delhi, Celebrated by Residents Before Handing Him Over to Police

If you use the internet, you have surely heard the term “Dil walon ki Delhi,” and you know how much the people of Delhi live by their hearts and do unexpected things. Now, netizens have come across yet another incident showcasing the large-heartedness of Delhiites.

In a bizarre incident that unfolded in the capital, a young thief found himself at the center of an unusual birthday celebration after being caught red-handed. The peculiar turn of events has recently resurfaced online, captivating netizens with its mix of humor and humanity.

The incident occurred on June 27, 2022, in a residential society when three individuals attempted to break into a locked flat. Alert residents noticed the activity and swiftly intervened, managing to apprehend one of the suspects while the other two fled. The caught thief, the youngest of the group, attempted to plead for mercy by claiming it was his birthday.

The video starts with a man giving the thief a knife to cut the cake. He hands the knife to the thief and then cuts the cake with him and then gives him a piece to eat. Instead of immediately handing him over to the authorities, the residents decided to humor the situation.

They ordered a cake for him, which humorously had the word "chor" (thief) written on it alongside depictions of tools he used during the attempted break-in. In an unusual celebration, the residents sang "Happy Birthday, Chor," and some bystanders even patted his head in a ceremonial gesture. As the thief grew comfortable, believing he would be let off, the residents surprised him by calling the police. According to The Tribune, he was eventually handed over to the authorities, ending the lighthearted spectacle.

One user commented, “It's not the punishment that can change the person, sometimes these are things that can change person for forever.” Another remarked, “He will never forget this birthday in his lifetime … I liked the person who is pampering him. Happy birthday.”
