Background
Telangana Election Result 2023 Live: Welcome, and thank you for joining the live blog covering the Telangana Election Results. Keep an eye out for the timely updates regarding the counting of votes polled for the Telangana Legislative Assembly. The election for the 119-member assembly took place on November 30 in a single phase, with the participation of 2,500 candidates. With the culmination of polling on November 30, the collective gaze is now firmly fixed on the pivotal election results slated for counting on December 3. The outcome carries immense significance, determining whether the BRS will achieve a hat-trick and if Congress can break the reigning streak.
For the past two months, the election witnessed extensive campaigns by prominent leaders, including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Throughout the election, BRS has been aiming to extend its winning streak since 2014, while Congress has been actively striving for victory after its 2018 defeat. Simultaneously, the BJP has been working to create a dent in the vote share of the two major parties.
Overall, 2,500 candidates contested in the polls. Several leaders including Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, state Congress president Revanth Reddy, state BJP president and Union minister G Kishan Reddy, BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BRS MLC K Kavitha and Telangana minister K T Rama Rao exercised their franchise on Thursday.
The polling was conducted without any untoward incidents except for a few minor issues. On the day of polling, a scuffle broke out between a group of workers from Congress and the BJP at a polling station in Jangaon.
According to a seat-sharing arrangement, the ruling BRS nominated candidates for all 119 seats, while the BJP and star Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena contested 111 and 8 seats, respectively.
Congress ran for 118 seats and allocated one to ally Communist Party of India. Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen ran in nine constituencies in Hyderabad.
Breaking a trend that dates back to 1985, the TDP has decided not to participate in the state elections in Telangana. Instead, its ally, the Jana Sena Party, is contesting in collaboration with the BJP. The exit polls showed a significant political shift towards Congress.
On Sunday, the counting of votes started at 8 AM.
