Hyderabad Mayor Orders Inquiry Into Stray Dogs Attack Incident After Holding Meeting On Stray Dog Menace

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Laxmi on Tuesday expressed sorrow over the death of a five-year-old boy who was mauled to death by stray dogs in Bagh Amberpet.

Mayor Vijaya Lakshmi held a meeting with the veterinary officials at the GHMC headquarters regarding the incident and ordered the officials to immediately take up an inquiry into the incident.

Vijaya Laxmi said the incident that claimed the life of a child was very unfortunate. On behalf of the state government, the GHMC is providing assistance to the boy’s parents, said the mayor.

Vijaya Laxmi said that each circle has been assigned anti-rabies injections and animal birth control to ensure that such instances don't happen again. She stated that proper action is being taken in response to complaints concerning stray dogs, and two cops and one vehicle have been set up for this purpose in each circle.

The mayor stated, "We can raise awareness of dog feeding points and their adoption in addition to making sure that stray dogs have access to enough water and staffing places where dog bite reports are often filed."

The GHMC is preparing to launch a specific dog adoption programme in each of its 30 circles in order to address the problem of stray dogs biting people, particularly youngsters. The GHMC plans for 600 dog adoptions per month in its territory, with the help of locals,  said the mayor.
