Delivery Agent Jumps From 3rd Floor After Being Chased By Dog

Out of fear, he jumped from the third floor. Ilyas, who fell on the sidewall of the building, sustained multiple fractures. He was admitted to a hospital and is currently out of danger.

A delivery agent, identified as Mohammed Ilyas (27), sustained multiple fractures after jumping from the third floor of a building in an attempt to escape a dog attack. The incident took place on Sunday in the Manikonda area of Hyderabad. According to the police, the Labrador dog, which appeared to be untied, aggressively approached Ilyas, an employee of Amazon.

In a state of fear, Ilyas leapt from the third floor, landing on the sidewall of the building. He was promptly admitted to a hospital, where his condition is currently stable and not life-threatening.

Following the incident, the Raidurgam police recorded Ilyas's statement. Local news agency IANS reported that a case has been filed against the flat owner under Section 289 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to negligent conduct regarding animals.

This marks the second occurrence of such an incident in Hyderabad within the past four months. In January, a 23-year-old food delivery worker tragically lost his life in a similar encounter. Mohammed Rizwan (23), an employee of the food delivery app Swiggy, had arrived at the Lumbini Rock Castle apartment building in Banjara Hills. While knocking on a flat's door, he was confronted by a German Shepherd that aggressively charged at him. Fearing for his safety, Rizwan jumped from the third floor, sustaining severe injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries four days later while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has called on dog owners to ensure their pets are restrained when delivery agents arrive with their orders. Additionally, the union has demanded that Amazon provide Ilyas with a daily wage of Rs 1,000 during his treatment, as he sustained his injuries while on duty.

Salahuddin, a representative of the TGPWU, has appealed to Greater Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalakshmi Gadwal and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao to establish accountability for dog owners in such situations.
