BJP Leader's Son Among 10 Held For Using Cocaine At Five-Star Hotel

BJP leader Gajjala Yoganand's son Gajjala Vivekanand was arrested for throwing a party at a five-star hotel, where cocaine was used.

The son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, along with 9 others were arrested for consuming drugs at a party in a five-star hotel, on Sunday night, according to a report by the news agency IANS. Gajjala Vivekanand (37) is the director of Manjeera Group of Companies and the son of BJP leader Gajjala Yoganand, who had contested in the assembly elections.

After receiving a tip-off about the consumption of drugs by Vivekanand and his friends, police teams headed to the hotel, by that time all the guests had left the place. Special Operations Team-Cyberabad and Gachibowli Police jointly conducted the operation. At a five-star hotel the police arrested Vivekanand, Syed Abbas Ali Jeffery, Nirbhay, Kedhar and six others.

According to IANS, during an investigation, police recovered three used plastic covers of cocaine (each of one gram before consumption), a white coloured paper used for consuming drugs and three mobile phones.

According to the police statement, upon inspecting the premises, the police team discovered three used plastic sachets containing cocaine, each weighing one gram, a white paper roll commonly associated with drug use. Acting on additional intelligence, police teams visited Vivekanand's residence in Jubilee Hills, after which they brought him to the police station.

During interrogation, he confessed to organising a party for his friends in the five-star hotel, where cocaine was present. Following this admission, he underwent medical examinations, which confirmed the presence of the drug in his system. Investigations are ongoing to identify the drug peddlers and other individuals involved in this case, the statement further added. 

Madhapur DCP G Vineeth told The New Indian Express, that the CCTV footage is being verified to find the others who are absconding. The police have filed a case against 10 individuals under sections 8(C), 21(b), 25, 27(a), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
