WhatsApp Now Lets You Search Conversations By Date

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a search by date feature for individual and group chats on Android devices.

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a search by date feature for individual and group chats on Android devices. This functionality has already been accessible on other platforms such as iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted the announcement on his WhatsApp channel along with a video of him searching for an old chat about Karaoke.

Users on WhatsApp are limited to searching for chats on specific dates rather than being able to specify a date range.

To use this feature, users on WhatsApp need to access the details of a one-on-one or group chat by tapping on the contact or group name. For searching by date, they simply tap on the search button and then select the calendar icon. Users on the world's most-popular messaging platform currently have the ability to search through conversations based on media type, including links, media, and documents, directly from the conversation detail page.

“Now you can simply choose a date and skip to all messages sent from that date onwards,” the company said.

“Simply click into any chat, tap the contact or group name at the top, and click ‘Search’ to choose which date you’d like to skip to,” WhatsApp said.

Last week, WhatsApp introduced support for additional text formatting options including bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code. Additionally, WhatsApp is said to be developing a new 'favorite contacts filter' feature, which would enable users to prioritize their conversations, enhancing control and efficiency in messaging.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp announced it is getting users a new way to format texts to enhance the texting experience. The instant messaging platform  unveiled four additional text formatting features. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced these changes on his WhatsApp channel. These new options complement the existing four text formatting choices available to users. They are available for all Android, iOS, Web, and Mac desktop users.

Apart from these features, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a feature which will protect users' profile pictures from unauthorised screenshots by others.
