Twitter Takes A Cue From TikTok, Will Introduce Vertical Videos To The Feed

Twitter seems to have copied China's TikTok and is introducing vertical videos to the Twitter feed.

In a world where apps with vertical videos have become a rage, Twitter has also joined the likes of such apps and seems to have copied China's TikTok and it is introducing vertical videos to the Twitter feed. The full-screen vertical videos are coming to Twitter for iOS devices.

Twitter says that videos are a huge part of the public conversation, and they’re one of the most engaging ways people can express themselves online. In fact, videos shared on Twitter receive billions of combined views every year, according to the micro-blogging company.

“Twitter’s updated immersive media viewer expands videos to full screen with a single click, allowing you to easily access the full, immersive viewing experience. To activate it, simply tap/click on a video in the Twitter app,” Twitter recently wrote in its blog post.

"Once the video has been launched in full screen mode, we’ve made video discovery easier as well. Just scroll up to start browsing more engaging video content. If you want to exit the viewer and go back to the original Tweet, click the back arrow in the top left corner," the company added.

According to the micro-blogging site, its immersive media viewer would be available in the coming days to people using Twitter in English on iOS devices. As per the initial screen grabs posted by Twitter, the new feature would work quite similar to the way as TikTok. Once opened, a video would play vertically in full screen. Twitter users can then skip to the next video by swiping up on the display.

Meanwhile, the company has begun testing its much-talked-about edit button. A recent tweet from the Twitter Blue handle showed how the feature would look. The company posted and added it was a test.
