Truecaller has reintroduced call recording ability for both iOS and Android users and the feature is going to be available in multiple countries including India, the biggest market for the caller identification service provider, according to Nami Zarringhalam, Truecaller’s Co-Founder, says a report by The Verge. Truecaller's call recording ability is only for premium subscribers.
Android users need to use Truecaller’s dialer, in order to start a recording call; if they want to start recording a call while dialling from another dialer, a floating recording button can be used. iPhone users or iOS users can use the call recording button too, but there is a catch for them. They need to call a recording line via the Truecaller app and merge the calls for both outgoing and incoming calls.
The person on the other side of the call will hear a beep to indicate the call is being recorded, the company has confirmed to The Verge.
To recall, the company had introduced call recording for premium subscribers on Android in 2018 and the ability was later expanded for all Android users in 2021. The feature was removed in 2022.
The caller identification service provider has recently announced it will roll out a caller identification facility available for WhatsApp and other messaging apps, in a bid to check spam calls over the Internet, news agency Reuters reported. This comes in the wake of an increasing number of international calls that WhatsApp users in India are witnessing, which in fact, is a scam.
Truecaller is currently testing the caller identification feature for WhatsApp and other messaging platforms in beta phase. It will be introduced globally later this month, Truecaller Chief Executive Alan Mamedi was quoted as saying in the Reuters report.
Scammers are on the prowl and calling WhatsApp users from international numbers from countries such as Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), Ethiopia (+251), Malaysia (+60), Vietnam (+84) and others. Similar scams are being operated for YouTube users where they are lured into earning "quick money" by simply liking the videos.
