Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection: Explained
Samsung has introduced the Enhanced Data Protection feature for Samsung Cloud. This feature offers end-to-end encryption for all synced data and backups, ensuring that data stored in your Samsung Cloud account can only be decrypted on the original Samsung device. This enhancement provides robust security even if the server holding the data is compromised.
To access this feature, users should go to their device settings, then select security and privacy options. From there, navigate to more security settings and enhanced data protection. Enable the toggles for ‘Encrypt Backup Data’ and ‘Encrypt Synced Data.’ Upon activation, you will receive a recovery code, which can be used to regain access to your Samsung account if necessary.
Quick Share Private Sharing: Explained
Quick Share Private Sharing is a new feature in Samsung's Quick Share, designed for secure file sharing between Samsung devices. This mode lets users set expiration timers on shared files, making them inaccessible once the timer runs out. Users can also specify who can view and access these files, and these settings can be changed anytime to ensure ongoing control over file visibility.
Files shared through Quick Share Private Sharing are read-only for recipients, preventing further distribution. Samsung states that screenshots are blocked to maintain privacy, and the files are protected using "blockchain-based encryption technology" for added security.
To enable this feature, users should select Quick Share while sharing files and click the three-dot button at the top right corner of the screen. With this mode active, users can share up to 20 files with a total size limit of 200 MB.
However, it's important to note that this feature is exclusive to Samsung devices. Additionally, it supports specific file types, including images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .webp, .heic, .dng), audio files (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, .m4a), videos (.mp4, .mkv, .webm, .3gp, .3g2), and documents (.pdf, .txt).
