Working To Fix Issues Found At Dorm Facilities, Says Foxconn, As Plant Resumes Production
Foxconn on Wednesday said it has been working on a series of issues that were found at the offsite dormitory facilities.
New Delhi: With contract manufacturer Foxconn's plant in Sriperumbudur opening with limited capacity on Wednesday, almost a month after being shut due to a food poisoning incident, the Taiwanese company said it has been working on a series of issues that were found at the offsite dormitory facilities. Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer Foxconn was put on probation by Apple after a food poisoning incident that led to many workers being hospitals.
During the probation period, Foxconn implemented a range of corrective measures and ensure that a similar incident doe not take place again. “We have been working on a series of improvements to fix issues we found at the offsite dormitory facilities at Sriperumbudur and to enhance the services we provide to our employees. We have implemented a range of corrective actions to ensure this cannot happen again and a rigorous monitoring system to ensure workers can raise any concerns they may have, including anonymously," Foxconn told ABP Live in a statement on Wednesday.
Apple would continue to put the facility on probation and would also monitor conditions at workers' dormitories and dining halls. The Foxconn facility would restart production with not more than 100 people and could take more than two months to resume full production.
"We will gradually begin to welcome back team members as each offsite dormitory becomes ready and is approved. We continue to support our employees and thank them for their patience as we work through the improvements," the Taiwanese company added.
Earlier in December, there was a ruckus after more than 150 employees working at iPhone supplier Foxconn's unit had fallen sick and were hospitalised and 256 others were treated as out-patients for food poisoning.
