As Fog Covers Delhi Like A Blanket, Here Are Top 5 Apps To Check AQI
Here is a list of the top five apps that we can use to check the Air Quality Index (AQI).
Delhi residents woke up to a foggy morning on Wednesday as heavy smog reduced visibility, with the city’s air quality dipping into the “very poor” range. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 366, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Nearby regions, including Noida, Gurugram, Ambala, Rohtak, and Karnal, also experienced similar smoggy conditions.
AQI levels are classified as follows: 0-50 indicates "good" air, 51-100 "satisfactory," 101-200 "moderate," 201-300 "poor," 301-400 "very poor," 401-450 "severe," and above 450 as "severe-plus."

Top 5 Apps To Check AQI For Free
- SAFAR Air (For Android & iOS): The Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, has launched the SAFAR-Air app (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research-Air), available for download on both the Play Store and App Store. Developed in partnership with the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, the app currently offers air quality data and pollution forecasts specifically for metro cities like Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Users can choose from four languages—English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati—based on the city they select. Presently, the app covers only certain areas within these cities. The only downside of this is that the interface is a bit outdated so you might need some time before you learn to navigate through it like a pro.
- BreezoMeter Air Quality (For Android & iOS): The BreezoMeter Air Quality app is another useful tool for checking the air quality index in your vicinity. It helps users reduce their exposure to poor air quality and pollen by providing real-time data and future forecasts. Covering over 94 countries, the app makes it easy to understand the types of pollutants in the surrounding environment and where they come from. Users can also find guidance on minimizing their exposure to these harmful elements.
- IQAir AirVisual (For Android & iOS): The IQAir AirVisual Air Quality app works on smartwatches and tablets, providing air quality details for over 500,000 cities worldwide. It pulls data from government monitoring stations and its own sensors, offering health recommendations and AQI forecasts up to seven days ahead, along with weather updates. The app also displays real-time air quality for multiple cities, with the option to view pollution data in both 2D and 3D formats.
- Plume Labs - Air Quality App (For Android & iOS): The app offers real-time air quality data for various cities, along with weather and pollution forecasts for the next 72 hours. It also allows users to analyse historical data from the past six months. The air quality forecasting system collects information on harmful pollutants such as NO2, PM 2.5, PM 10, and O3. Additionally, the app provides two daily reports: one summarising the current day's air quality and another offering a forecast for the following day.
- Shoot! I Smoke (For Android & iOS): If you associate pollution mainly with cigarette smoke, there’s an app that can help you gauge the air quality in your city by comparing it to the effects of smoking. This app helps you understand AQI by showing how air pollution relates to cigarette consumption, so you can learn how many cigarettes might pose a risk to your lungs and overall health. Featuring an interactive interface, the app provides detailed data on pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, CO, O3, NO2, and SO2.
