Vice-Chancellor Post Sold For Rs 40-50 Cr In Tamil Nadu: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit
Purohit gave the response while interacting with the media after the Punjab government alleged that the Governor is interfering with the working of universities in Punjab.
Chennai: Striking a controversy, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit alleged that the Vice-Chancellor post was sold for Rs 40-50 crore in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the reporters, Banwarilal Purohit as per ANI said, “I was Tamil Nadu Governor for 4 years. It was very bad there. In Tamil Nadu, the Vice-Chancellor post was sold for Rs 40-50 crores.”
“I appointed 27 VCs of universities in Tamil Nadu as per law when I was Governor there. They (Punjab govt) should learn from me how work happens. I don't even know who is capable & not capable in Punjab. I see to it that education improves,” he said.

Purohit also said that state government can't interfere in matters of universities but the state is alleging that Governor is interfering in the workings of the universities.
The government sent three letters for extending tenure of VC. If Governor has no role how can he have a role in providing extensions, he asked.
Purohit is the Chancellor of government universities in Punjab.

Earlier, Purohit told Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to remove the Vice Chancellor of Ludhiana's Punja Agriculture University Satbir Singh Gosal. He alleged that the VC was "appointed illegally" as it was not done as per the norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
