Body Of Ex-Chennai Mayor's Son Found In Himachal A Week After Accident

Vetri Duraisamy went missing after his vehicle veered off the road and fell 200 meters into the Satluj River in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The remains of Vetri Duraisamy, the son of former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, were found after an eight-day search in Himachal Pradesh on Monday. Vetri Duraisamy went missing after his vehicle veered off the road and fell 200 meters into the Satluj River in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Vetri Duraisamy was a photographer and director of the film Endravathu Oru Naal.

According to police, the accident took place on February 4 near Kashang Nallah. The body of Vetri Duraisamy (45) was found in the Satluj River, approximately 3 km away from the site of the accident. According to Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma, divers from the Mahun Nag Association in Sundernagar (Mandi) recovered the body around 2 pm on Monday.

Law enforcement authorities said the body would be returned to the family members after a post-mortem examination at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla. The final rites are expected to take place at 6 PM in Chennai. 

Two days after the incident, Vetri's father, Saidai Duraisamy, announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who could locate his son, while also appealing to local residents for assistance.

The vehicle was en route from Kaza to Shimla when the accident occurred. Among the occupants, one of the three tourists, Gopinath from Tamil Nadu, sustained severe injuries and was initially transferred to IGMCH Shimla for treatment, whereas the body of the driver, identified as Tanjin from Lahaul and Spiti, was retrieved on February 5.

Since February 4, a collaborative search operation involving the Kinnaur police, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, Home Guards, and divers from the Mahun Nag Association has been underway along the banks of the Sutlej River. Additionally, drones were utilized in efforts to locate the missing individual.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami among others expressed their condolences to Saidai Duraisamy and his family.
