Tamil Nadu: Woman Kills 3-Month-Old Grandson By Mutilating Genitals, Severely Injures Granddaughter
The police have registered a case under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the India Penal Code and are on the lookout for Shanthi.
Chennai: A 45-year-old woman killed her grandson reportedly by mutilating his genitals in Coimbatore's Thudiyalur district. The grandmother also injured and fractured the boy's twin sister and wrapped her in a cloth and left her in the bathroom of their home.
According to a report in the Times of India, the accused Shanthi from Madurai, who is currently absconding, came to her daughter's home in Coimbatore recently. She stayed along with her daughter Aishwarya (24) and Baskaran (31), who three months ago gave birth to twins, B Aryan and Aarika Sri.
On Thursday, Baskaran went to work and Aishwarya along with her brother went to a nearby medical shop for purchasing medicines. She left the twins with her mother.
On Aishwarya's return after half an hour, she was shocked to find Aryan with multiple injuries and mutilated genitals lying on the bed. She then searched for Aarika and found her in the bathroom with gruelling injuries

Aishwarya took both the babies to the hospital. However, Aryan was declared dead and his body has been sent to a Coimbatore government general hospital for autopsy. Aarika Sri was referred to another hospital where she is receiving treatment in an ICU but she is reportedly recuperating well.
The police have registered a case under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the India Penal Code and are on the lookout for Shanthi. Her husband works as a sub-inspector in Mathichiyam police station in Madurai. During interrogation, the family said that Shanthi is reportedly suffering from mental illness.
