Tamil Nadu: 7 Students Arrested For Ragging, Assaulting And Tonsuring Junior At Coimbatore College

The engineering student was also harassed, blackmailed and subjected to assault at the college hostel in Coimbatore by the senior students for failing to give money to purchase alcohol. 

Seven students of PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore were arrested for ragging, tonsuring and demanding money from a first-year student under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday. After the complaint, the college management also suspended all the seven students from the college for their actions.

According to ANI, Seven students of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore arrested by Peelamedu Police for ragging a 1st-year student and tonsuring his head and demanding money from the student student for consuming liquor. FIR registered against them. All seven students have been suspended by the college management.

The engineering student was also harassed, blackmailed and subjected to assault by the senior students for failing to give money to them for purchasing alcohol. They also sent the victim back to his room only the next day. They also reportedly threatened the victim to not tell anyone about the incident. However, the victim opened about the issue to his parents. 

The case came to light after the junior gave a complaint to the police on Tuesday. The cops registered a case under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act and various sections including assault and voluntarily causing hurt of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The college has a strict anti-ragging policy on the campus. However, the college authorities allegedly failed to take prompt action on the matter following which the student filed a complaint at the Peelamedu police station on Tuesday, sources told The Indian Express.
