Tamil Nadu: 24 MBBS Seats Go Waste In Government Colleges After 4 Rounds Of Counselling
Usually after two rounds of counselling, the seats will be returned to the state but the central committee reportedly did not submit the details about vacant seats.
Chennai: Around 24 medical seats in government medical colleges of Coimbatore, Madurai and Thanjavur have gone for waste in 2021 admissions.
According to a report on Times of India, the seats went vacant after four rounds of counselling including two normal rounds and mop-up rounds. Of the 24 total seats, four seats remain vacant under the government quota while 14 seats remain vacant under management seats in self-financing colleges.
The details about the vacant seats came to light after the state selection committee's deadline for medical admissions for 2021 ended on April 11.

Talking to TOI, Selection Committee Secretary P Vasanthamani said, we have not received public notice or letter about the deadline so we called to inquire about it and they told us that the deadline was April 11.
Overall for 2021 admission, Tamil Nadu surrendered a total of 812 seats in TN schools to All India Quota for central admissions.

The counselling for the seats are done by Directorate General of Health Services in New Delhi. Usually after two rounds of counselling, the seats will be returned but the central committee conducted mop-up and a stray round this time.
The officials only on Tuesday found out that two dozens of students had not joined the counselling, said the report.
Further, Vasanthamani said, there is nothing we could do and a few state government seats have went vacant due to communication issues.
