Tamil Nadu: Portion Of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple Wall Collapses In Srirangam. VIDEO

Srirangam Temple mishap has been reported at a time when work was already ongoing to repair the first and second-level compound walls of the temple entrance. 

A portion of the east entry tower of Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple collapsed in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The incident took place when no one was present at the temple. As a result, no one was hurt by the mishap. However, the mishap has left the devotees in a state of shock. The mishap has been reported at a time when work to repair the first and second-level compound walls of the temple entrance was already ongoing. 

According to PTI, “A portion of one of the towers in the eastern entrance of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu collapsed earlier today.”

According to ABP Nadu, the repair work to rectify the cracks was being conducted in the first and second-level compound walls when a portion of the first-level wall collapsed at the temple.

After the incident, the police and other teams rushed to the spot to remove the debris.

However, the mishap created panic among the devotees on Saturday. All the more, as Saturday is said to be an auspicious day for Lord Ranganathar, the incident has left the people disturbed.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is a temple for Hindu Lord Ranganathar (a form of Vishnu) located in Srirangam at Tiruchirapalli. Srirangam is part of the 108 Divyadesam Vaishnavite temples of Lord Vishu.

The temple was built in the Dravidian architectural style and is praised by Alvars in their Naalayira Divya Prabhandam and holds the distinction of being the first of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to the god Vishnu.

The temple in Srirangam is recorded in Tamil literature from the Sangam period and the epic Silapadikaram
