Tamil Nadu Govt Forms Panel To Bring Ordinance Against Online Gambling After Woman Ends Life In Chennai

Online gambling: The woman killed herself after her husband lost the money kept for paying their son's fees.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government on Friday set up a four-member panel headed by retired Justice Chandru to provide recommendations for promulgating an ordinance against online gambling after a spate of suicides.

The announcement to set up the panel came after a woman in Chennai killed herself after her husband lost their money in gambling. There was also a spate of suicides across the state by people who lost money in online rummy games.

The recent incident was the death of a 32-year-old woman Bhuvaneshwari at Nandambakkam, Chennai by suicide. The woman took the extreme step after her husband Suresh, who is unemployed, lost Rs 20,000 through gambling.
