Rainfall Likely In TN, Puducherry As Northeast Monsoon To Arrive In Next 48 Hrs
In India, the southwest monsoon completely withdrew from the entire country on October 19.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced the onset of Easterlies and Northeasterlies over the southern peninsular region, signaling the probable commencement of the Northeast monsoon within the next 48 hours. According to the IMD, the initial phase of the anticipated monsoon is expected to be relatively weak, hinting at potential challenges for the region. With the setting in of Easterlies and Northeasterlies over southern peninsular India, IMD said, "Northeast monsoon rainfall activity is likely to commence over southern peninsular region in the next 48 hours."
"However, the initial phase of the northeast monsoon in general is likely to be weak," it said.
A low-pressure area has also formed over Bay of Bengal. IMD said, "Under the influence of yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal, a Low pressure area formed over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 IST of today 20.10.2023, and lay over the same region at 0830 IST of today, with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid tropospheric levels."
"It is likely to concentrate into a Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal around 23rd October," it said.
As a result of the cyclonic circulation, IMD said that light to moderate rain will occur at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy with mild showers at some areas. IMD said, "Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be around 34-35°C and minimum temperature is likely to be around 25-26°C."
