Charred Body Of IIT Madras' Research Scholar-Cum-Guest Lecturer Found At Campus
The deceased is identified as Unnikrishnan and his father is a scientist at ISRO
Chennai: The charred body of a research scholar and a guest lecturer, Unni Krishnan Nair, was found at the IIT Madras hockey ground on Thursday night. Unnikrishnan hailing from Ernakulam in Kerala pursued a Bachelor of Technology in 2021 and had joined in April 2021 as a project associate. Unnikrishnan's father Raghu is a scientist at ISRO. According to reports, Unnikrishnan returned from Kerala on Thursday morning.
After the sports faculty saw the partially burnt body in the hockey stadium, they immediately rushed to the nearby police station. Police arrived at the crime scene and conducted an investigation. Also, the police sent the body to a nearby Government Hospital for autopsy.
A suicide note of Unnikrishnan is found near his burnt body. According to the Kotturpuram police, a preliminary investigation has revealed that he had committed suicide by pouring petrol in a small water bottle. The forensic department has collected water bottles and traces of petrol from the crime scene. Also, while searching Unnikrishnan's house, the police found a suicide note, which reads: "I do not know what I am doing. I am very depressed. No one is responsible for my death."
Besides, police sources claim that they have retrieved an 11-page suicide note. A case under section 174 CrPC has been filed. Kotturpuram police have been also investigating two students, Anil Kumar from Kerala and Prakash from Salem, who stayed with him.
