Ford Sets Deadline As June 14 To Chennai Employees To Resume Production Amid Days Of Protests

Chennai: Ford India instructed its employees in Chennai plant to resume production before June 14 after accepting the severance package. The company also threatened that it would take legal action against those who do not opt for severance package.
The employees of the Chennai plant started to stage a protest on May 30 demanding better severance pay. The employees started the protests as the company was still having limited export production left to finish in Chennai.
According to a report on The Hindu, the company has put up on its notice boards in Chennai calling permanent employees of the firm to resume production from June 14.

The company notice said, the company is inviting the permanent employees who are willing to support with production to opt for a severance package of 115 days of gross wages for each completed years of service.

The Ford management has also made it clear that the package could be availed only by permanent employees who resume production from June 14 and help the company to finish the production.
The company also told the remaining workers who do not want the severance package to provide a reason for refusing to accept the package before 5 Pm on June 13. The company also threatened that it would take legal action against those who do not opt for the severance package.
Further, it also pointed out that the package was higher than the statutory severance package.
The company has also sent the notice to the employees union and labour department.
Meanwhile, Ford announced that it would stop the vehicle manufacturing operations in its Chennai plat from June 2022 due to losses and inability to find a sustainable path on September 9, 2021.
