'Police Bro': Coimbatore Police Launch Initiative To Senstitise Students Against Drug Abuse

Earlier, Coimbatore police conducted 'Police Akka' initiative to interact and sensitise girl students on campuses in October 2022.

Coimbatore city police are set to launch 'police bro', a programme, aimed at sensitising college students against the use of drugs and substances. The 'police bro' programme is likely to be launched by the end of July. As part of the programme, police officers are expected to visit the students and interact with them on college campus.

According to IANS, the police will speak to the students as part of the ‘police bro’ programme in order to make them understand about the narcotic movement on the campus.

The police officers, as per IANS, said, "Police will cut off the narcotic supply and rehabilitate any student who has fallen prey to drug abuse."

Through the programme, police are aiming to establish friendly interaction, especially with male students. After gaining the trust of the students, the police are expected to give the department valuable tips regarding the presence of narcotics on campuses and outside, said the report.

Coimbatore police are expecting to cut the supply of narcotics in the district through such initiatives.

Sources told IANS that the project would initially be implemented in 83 colleges and in each police station limits two sub-inspectors would be made as in-charges of the project.

Earlier, Coimbatore police conducted 'Police Akka' initiative to interact and sensitise girl students on campuses in October 2022.

The initiative was aimed at sensitising the students against cybercrimes and cyberbullying. Around 59 women constables who were trained to sensitise the students were pressed into service in 60 colleges across the city.

The police officers who implemented the initiative in October 2022 called it a success.

‘Police Bro’ is a similar initiative to help prevent male students from indulging in crimes and curb them from narcotic substance use.
