DMK Announces Candidates' List For Rajya Sabha Elections, Gives One Seat To Ally Congress

The ruling DMK has 125 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, and its ally Congress has 18 seats out of the 234 seats.

New Delhi: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday has announced three candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Among the three, the party has given one seat to the ally Congress. The elections to fill 57 Rajya Sabha seats are set to be held on June 10. Among the three candidates announced by the MK Stalin-led party, are Thanjai Kalyanasundaram, KRN Rajesh Kumar and Girirajan.

The ruling DMK has 125 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, and its ally Congress has 18 seats out of the 234 seats.

According to a report by news agency ANI, the DMK alliance is expected to win four out of the six seats, while AIADMK is likely to retain two seats.

It is to be noted that the Election Commission has announced the elections for the seats that will be falling vacant due to the retirement of members on different dates between June and August.

Between June 21 and August 1, several Rajya Sabha members will be retiring.

In the 245-member house, the BJP has 95 MPs while the Congress has 29. While 11 seats will fall vacant in Uttar Pradesh, six members each will retire from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, five from Bihar and four each will retire from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka.
