Congress MP Moves Notice In LS To Discuss TN Rain, Seeks Rs 5100 Cr From Centre For Relief Efforts

Manickam Tagore specifically called for urgent intervention from the Central Government to take immediate action in releasing a minimum of Rs 5,100 crore.

In a significant development, Congress Member of Parliament Manickam Tagore submitted an adjournment motion notice to discuss rain-related issues in Chennai and other regions of Tamil Nadu. Manickam Tagore also specifically called for urgent intervention from the Central Government urging them to take immediate action in releasing a minimum of Rs 5,100 crore.

According to ANI, Congress MP Manickam Tagore gives adjournment motion notice to discuss the condition of Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu and seeking directions to the Central Government for immediate action to release a minimum of Rs 5100 crore to facilitate comprehensive and effective relief efforts.

 
 

The statement came after Union Minister Amit Shah announced the advance payment of two installments of the Centre's share of funds for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Amit Shah said, "Severe cyclonic storm Michaung has affected Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Though the extent of damage is varied, many areas of these states are inundated, thus affecting standing crops." 

"To help the state Governments with the management of relief necessitated by the cyclonic storm, PM @narendramodi Ji directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to release in advance the central share of the 2nd installment of SDRF of Rs 493.60 crore to Andhra Pradesh and Rs 450 crore to Tamil Nadu," he said. 

Cyclone Michaung threw normal life out of gear and the incessant rains resulted in a flood-like situation across Chennai.
