Coimbatore Car Explosion: Five Arrested, Rapid Action Force Deployed In City

On Sunday, while a 25-year-old engineering student was traveling in a Maruti 800 car in a communally-sensitive Kottaimedu area in Coimbatore, a cylinder exploded and charred him to death. 

Chennai: Two days after a man died in a car cylinder blast in Coimbatore, five people have been arrested in connection with the death. The Coimbatore police are also continuing with the probe. 

According to ANI, Coimbatore City Police said, “Five people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man in a car cylinder blast. Investigation in the case is underway.” 

Rapid Action Force has also been deployed across the city of Coimbatore.

On Sunday, while a 25-year-old engineering student was traveling in a Maruti 800 car in a communally-sensitive Kottaimedu area in Coimbatore, the cylinder blasted and burst the vehicle bust into two parts. 

The man who was traveling in a car was charred to death. 

Following this, the police retrieved an LPG cylinder, aluminum, iron nails and glass pebbles from the crime scene.

The deceased was A Jamesha Mubin of Kottaipudur. 

The police also searched his home and found low-intensity explosives. They also registered a case under Sections 174 of IPC and 3A of the Explosive Substances Act.

DGP Sylendra Babu said, they suspect Jamesha to be involved in transporting explosives and he might have parked the car in front of the temple to evade the arrest. 

A CCTV footage also showed five persons taking the material from Mubeen's house on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the police also claimed that the NIA had interrogated the youth Jamesha for his involvement with ISIS and other Islamic organisations.

The incident took place at 4 am on Sunday. The mishap was first seen by Senthil Kannan, a Aavin milk booth operator, while he came to open the shop.
