Chennai: Two men were arrested for trying to sexually assault a woman who was alone at her home in Koyambedu. The two men reportedly barged into the home of the woman, held her at knifepoint and tried to sexually assault her. However, she immediately raised an alarm which led to the neighbours nabbing the accused. 


According to a report on The Hindu, a 27-year-old woman was living with her husband, a daily wage worker, at a home in Koyambedu. On Monday, the woman's husband left for work and she was alone on the ground floor of the house. 


However, suddenly two men barged into the house and locked the door. They held the woman at knifepoint and attempted to sexually assault her.

However, the woman immediately raised an alarm. The duo who immediately got frightened threatened her to remain mum. Yet, she continued to raise a cry. The duo swiftly tried to escape from the place but the neighbours caught them red-handed. 


The neighbours then informed the police.

The police who arrived at the spot arrested the duo identified as Ganeshamoorthy (a) Kullapaiyan (28) of Brindavan Nagar and B Aravind (27) of Virugambakkam under sections of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC), said the report.


The accused persons were produced before a magistrate and lodged in prison.


Meanwhile, six men were arrested for kidnapping and raping another woman who was on her way home from her hometown on a taxi near Thelliyar Agaram on Chennai Bypass Road on Sunday. Of the six men, one of them waylaid the taxi and threatened the taxi driver. The remaining five persons also joined him and all of them entered the taxi. They then took the taxi to a secluded place and raped the woman.
