New Delhi: The Congress party will be organising ‘Mehangai Chaupal’ to protest against inflation from August 17 to August 23, reported news agency ANI. The ‘Mehangai Chaupal’ will be held at all mandis, retail markets, and other places in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies, reported the news agency.
The protest will mark the culmination of the party’s ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on August 28, the party said.
Congress has been protesting against the government over a host of issues like inflation, unemployment and the Agniveer recruitment scheme.
The party will hit to streets after August 15 demanding rollback of the Agnipath scheme of short-term recruitment into the armed forces and unemployment.
Addressing a press conference here, Congrtess MP Deepender Singh Hooda said that while the party extended full support to the 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' campaign launched by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and to the united front of ex-servicemen, who fought for 'One rank, one pension', the Congress will extend full support to the campaign against the Agnipath scheme, reported news agency IANS.
"After August 15, we will take to the streets, just like we did in our fight against inflation, to protest against unemployment and demand rollback of the Agnipath scheme," Hooda said.
On August 5, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wore a black band on his arm amidst the nationwide protest by his party against price rise and inflation.
Party leaders, including MPs, protested by wearing black bands on their arms.
In response to the same, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at Congress, referring to the opposition's protest in black clothes on August 5, and said that no matter how much people do black magic, the public's trust will never be built on them again.
