Announcement Of Prabhakaran Being Alive Has Given New Hope To Sri Lankan Tamils: Nedumaran

Prabhakaran is believed to have been killed by Sri Lankan forces on May 18, 2009, during the last phase of the civil war in Sri Lanka.

New Delhi: P Nedumaran, president of World Confederation of Tamils, on Saturday said the announcement that LTTE supremo Prabhakaran is alive gives new hope to all Sri Lankan Tamils and as soon as he gets the evidence, he will release it to the media, news agency ANI reported.

“Announcement that Prabhakaran is alive has given new hope & enthusiasm to all Sri Lankan Tamils...If we want to reveal the proof that he's alive, I'll call you and reveal the proof. As soon as I get the evidence, I will meet the media and release it,” ANI quoted Pazha Nedumaran as saying.

His statement comes just a few weeks after he made a sensational claim that Prabhakaran is alive and would make public appearance soon.

Speaking to the media at Thanjavur, Nedumaran said, "Pleased to announce the truth about our Tamil national leader Prabhakaran. He's fine. I'm very happy to announce this to the Tamil people all over the world. I hope this news will put an end to the speculations that have been systematically spread about him so far."

"Let me inform you that he (Prabhakaran) is soon going to announce a plan for the liberation of the Tamil race. All the Tamil people of the world should support him together," he added.

Prabhakaran is believed to have been killed by Sri Lankan forces on May 18, 2009, during the last phase of the civil war in Sri Lanka. His death was confirmed only after the Sri Lankan Army released pictures of a "deceased Prabhakaran" in 2009. His body was said to have been found in the forest of northern Sri Lanka at Mullivayakal.

Meanwhile, refuting such claims, Sri Lanka Director Media and Army Spokesman Brigadier Ravi Herath exclusively told ABP Nadu that Sri Lanka has all the records, including "DNA certificates" to prove that Prabhakaran is dead.

"...As per our records, there are no such evidence to say that the particular person that you are referring to is alive. So, this particular statement that the politician has made, you will have to ask from him only as to what is the base that he is coming out with such statement," Brigadier Ravi Herath told ABP Nadu.
