Ex-CM Harish Rawat's Health Deteriorates During Congress Protest Against Police Lathi Charge On Youth

Harish Rawat experienced a decline in his health during the Congress protests in Dehradun.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat's health deteriorated on Friday during a Congress demonstration in Dehradun against the police's lathi charge on the youth. The former Uttarakhand CM was being examined by doctors in an ambulance, reported ANI. He along with other Congress workers was holding a demonstration against the BJP-led government and arrest of the protesting unemployed youth when he fell ill.

Students and other youth organisations have been protesting in Dehradun demanding an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the recruitment scams in Uttarakhand. The protest on Thursday turned violent and police resorted to a lathi charge alleging stone pelting was done by demonstrators.

After the incident, the Dehradun district administration on Friday imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPc within a 300-metre radius of the Parade Ground, Dehradun, to stop more protests by youths.

In response to the reported police lathi charge incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a comprehensive magisterial investigation.

“The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary for a detailed magisterial inquiry into the law and order situation and the entire sequence of lathi charge,” a statement from the CM office said.

“After checking all the facts and circumstances, the inquiry officer will make the detailed inquiry report available to the government,” it added.

According to Police due to the escalation of violence at the protest, where students threw stones and injured 15 policemen, the police were forced to use batons to regain control.

Congress party reacted sharply to youths subjected to police brutality for raising their genuine demands and is holding demonstrations in support of the protest on Friday in all district headquarters.
