Doctor Leaves Cloth Inside Man's Stomach During Surgery In UP, Probe Launched: Report
The doctor admitted a 58-year-old man to his Ashoka Hospital and performed an operation on him without the family's consent.
New Delhi: A 58-year-old man's family has accused a doctor in Badaun (UP) of operating on him without their consent and leaving cloth in his stomach during surgery, reported news agency PTI. Kavita, Veerpal Singh's daughter, claimed that AK Verma, the owner of a nursing home in the Civil Lines area, had advised her father to have a gallbladder operation after he frequently complained of abdominal pain.
According to Kavita's complaint to the police, when Singh visited Verma on March 16, the doctor admitted him to his Ashoka Hospital and performed an operation on him without the family's consent.
The doctor gave Singh injections as his condition deteriorated and asked him to leave the hospital, but his family opposed this. Verma called an ambulance and took the patient to a Bareilly hospital. There, he was operated on once more at the Medicity Nursing Home, and three clothes that had been stained with blood were found inside his stomach. The discovery of three pieces of clothing in Singh's stomach was confirmed by the doctors at Medicity.
Verma told reporters that he performed the surgery on Singh using a telescopic instrument following the allegations. The patient's life was in danger, so a major surgery had to be performed when the bleeding started.
Verma stated that there was insufficient time to leave the operating room and notify the relatives of the situation.
He claimed that Singh's surgery was successful, but because his condition deteriorated and there was no emergency room at his nursing home, he had to refer him to Bareilly.
Verma stated that he would fully cooperate with the police investigation and that the allegations made against him were baseless.
According to SP (City) Amit Kishor Srivastava, Kavita's complaint against Verma is being investigated.
"There is a clear instruction of the Supreme Court that action should be taken in such cases only on the basis of the report given by the panel constituted by the district magistrate under the direction of the chief medical officer," Srivastava said.
After receiving a report, he stated, an FIR would only be filed in accordance with the directions of the DM, and appropriate action would be taken.
