UP Portfolios: CM Adityanath Keeps Home, Vigilance. Suresh Khanna To Head Finance Ministry

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will head Rural Development and Food Processing while the other Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak gets Medical Education among others. 

New Delhi: After being sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a second consecutive term, Yogi Adityanath on Monday allocated portfolios in his 53-member council of ministers. Adityanath kept 34 departments with him, including Home, Vigilance and Personnel. 

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will head Rural Development and Food Processing while Adityanath's other deputy Brajesh Pathak got Medical Education among others. 

The Public Works Department, which Maurya headed in the previous ministry, has been given to Jitin Prasada this time.

Suresh Khanna has been allotted Finance and Parliamentary Affairs while Swatantra Dev Singh got Jal Shakti ministry. Baby Rani Maurya will be in charge of Women and Child Welfare department.

City Development and Excess Energy departments has been allocated to Arvind Sharma while Jaivir Singh will look after Tourism and Cultural Department.

Surya Pratap Shahi was given Agriculture, Agriculture Education and research departments. IAS-turned-politician Arvind Kumar Sharma, a confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been given Urban Development, Energy among five departments.

Among allies, while Nishad Party president Sanjay Nishad got Fisheries, the Apna Dal (Sonelal) leader Ashish Patel was given Technical Education department.

Among Ministers of State (MoS) with independent charge, former IPS officer Asim Arun will head Social welfare, SC/ST welfare departments.

Sandip Singh, grandson of BJP veteran Kalyan Singh, will take care of Basic Education while Daya Shankar Singh got Transport.

Danish Azad Ansari, the lone muslim minister in the MoS rank, has been allocated Minorities Welfare besides Waqf and Haj departments.

Yogi Adityanath took oath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time on March 25. Along with him, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also took oath as deputy chief ministers of the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party registered its victory on 225 seats of the total 403 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the recent elections. BJP allies, Apna Dal (Sonelal) got 12 seats and the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad) got six seats. 

Samajwadi party emerged as the main opposition party with 111 seats while its ally,  Rashtriya Lok Dal got eight and the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party six.

Congress and Jansatta Dal Loktantrik had won two seats each while the Bahujan Samaj Party got one seat.
