Forensic investigations revealed that blood was found in a house that was burnt. Two persons were brutally murdered by alleged rioters at the then Gurudwara in Kidwai Nagar. The SIT has collected evidence from here 36 years after the riots.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had formed an SIT in 2019 to probe the Sikh riots following prime minister Narendra Modi's directive. This SIT was given all the powers. An impartial inquiry was to be conducted.

The SIT has completed its investigation in 11 cases. Chargesheets are now being filed in these cases. During this time, the SIT has reached such places where the investigating teams constituted before never visited. After the SIT probe was intensified, there is a glimmer of hope for justice for the Sikh community.

According to records, 127 people were killed and hundreds injured in the 1984 riots. Sikhs living in Govind Nagar, Barra, Fazalganj, and Armapur police station areas of Kanpur were publicly killed.
