Lalitpur Rape Case: Akhilesh Meets Victim's Family, Says Police Stations Became 'Center Of Chaos' Under BJP Rule
The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested Tilakdhari Saroj, the Station House Officer (SHO) who is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old rape survivor.
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday met the family of the Lalitpur rape victim and held the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government accountable for the incident as he demanded strict action against the culprits. The response by the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh assembly came days after the Lalitpur rape case, wherein the Station House Officer (SHO) is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old rape survivor, sparked a row across the state.
In a conversation with news agency ANI, Akhilesh Yadav said, "The victim's mother wants justice and protection. This incident took place at a Police Station where she went to seek justice. This is not the first time that such an incident took place. The rape incidents of Chandauli and Hathras are in front of you."
"BJP government is responsible for this. The walls of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house are unable to hear the problems of people," he added.
The Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh assembly claimed that the state records the highest number of fake encounters and custodial deaths.
"We want strict action and those involved should go to jail. Uttar Pradesh records the highest fake encounters and custodial deaths. Police stations have become the center of chaos," the Samajwadi Party chief said.
Notably, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested Tilakdhari Saroj, the Station House Officer (SHO) who is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old rape survivor.
She had gone to the police station to file a complaint in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district and was allegedly sexually assaulted by the SHO.
