Uttar Pradesh CM Adityanath Suspends 15 Officials After Six Killed In Deoria In Clash Over Land Dispute

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered the suspension of 15 police and revenue department employees, including a subdivisional magistrate and a circle officer of police.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday (October 5) reacted quickly to the tragic clash over a land dispute that killed six people earlier this week in Deoria district. The chief minister suspended 15 police and revenue department employees, including high-ranking officials, in response to a probe report that revealed significant negligence and a lack of diligence in the performance of their duties, news agency PTI reported.

In accordance with the press release, "...several complaints under IGRS (Integrated Grievances Redressal System) regarding the illegal occupation of 'gramme samaj' land by the late Satya Prakash Dubey were sent online to the police and the revenue department and the same were not resolved by taking serious cognizance of it by the officials concerned of both the departments." According to police, former district panchayat member Prem Yadav (50) was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and killed when he went to his house by his rival Dubey and his family, PTI reported citing official statement.

According to the report, Subdivisional Magistrate Yogesh Kumar Gaur, Circle Officer Jilajeet, two tehsildars, three lekhpals, a station house officer of police, two sub-inspectors, a head constable, and four constables were suspended following the incident in Fatehpur village, Rudrapur tehsil. The decision by the chief minister is a firm reaction to the findings of the investigation into the clash.

The conflict arose from long-standing land ownership disputes, specifically the late Satya Prakash Dubey's illegal occupation of 'gramme samaj' land. Several complaints about this issue had been filed with the Integrated Grievances Redressal System (IGRS), according to PTI.  However, both the police and revenue departments failed to adequately address these complaints.

The violence began when former district panchayat member Prem Yadav (50) paid a visit to Dubey's house and was attacked with sharp-edged weapons, resulting in his death. In retaliation, Yadav's supporters from Abhaipur launched a brutal attack on Dubey and four members of his family, including children, killing them all.

Satya Prakash Dubey (50), Kiran Dubey (52), Saloni Dubey (18), Nandani Dubey (10), and Gandhi Dubey (15) were among those killed in this clash.
